I remember the first time I got officially introduced to the terms Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). At the time I was a seasoned Information Technology Leader with no roots in the Human Resources world. I was asked to participate in a focus group for sharing perspectives on career advancement in a global organization. The rich authentic discussion caused the organization to hire a Chief Diversity Officer. Thereafter, employee resource groups were introduced as part of the D&I strategy and I was curious about learning more about my culture so I raised my hand to participate. I didn't know that was a pivotal moment in my career. I didn't know that was the moment that would signal the start of my journey to taking the driver's seat in my career.
