December 10th is International Human Rights Day. It started on December 10, 1948, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR was developed by representatives from all regions of the world and has been translated into 500 languages.
Internationally, December 10th is recognized and celebrated as Human Rights Day. What can you do to honor this day?
Educate Yourself: The UDHR states that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” Learn the rest by reading the full Declaration here.
Share This Year’s Theme: This year’s International Human Rights Day theme is “EQUALITY - Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights”. Celebrate EQUALITY on social media. Lead by Example: Act towards others “in a spirit of brotherhood”. One way to do this is by being kind to others and demonstrating your understanding and belief in Human Rights through your actions. Perhaps you can pay for a cup of coffee for a stranger. Why not ask a co-worker how they are doing?

Make a Plan: December 10th is International Human Rights Day but honoring Human Rights is something that needs to happen everyday and in all walks of life. Take the time now to make your personal plan to advance human rights every day. What can you do? One example is to volunteer your time or perhaps plan events to draw attention to supporting Human Rights.
